..I was driving my car down Huron Street yesterday to go to the gym. It was a gorgeous sunny day that can only happen in the winter. The snow was sparkling brightly, and I was humming a little tune. I was very excited to be working out since it’s been a while. Then, out of the clear blue sky, a shadow crossed my path, and with a thunderous splat, some bird droppings hit my windshield. I hadn’t been expecting it, so it was quite a surprise.
That got me thinking about life in general. I know in my own life, I often am on my merry way, and then something happens out of the blue where I feel like I just got defecated on. Sometimes it is because of my own actions, and I didn’t realize what I was doing. Other times, it is due to situations far beyond my control. But either way, it stinks, literally.
What do you then? I sometimes allow myself to get upset about it if it is something major. Other times, I just shrug my shoulders and say, “Oh well.” And every once in a while, I see the humor of the predicament and can laugh about it.
A lot of times, situations are completely beyond our control, but how we react to them should be completely within our control. I know that my responses to certain situations have not always been controlled and measured, and that should be something worth working on. It is important to me to be in control of myself, if nothing else in this world. It seems like I should be able to control my emotions, thoughts, and deeds, though I rarely feel that way.
Okay, that’s it for my random musings. I hope everyone has a great week!
